Take a moment and consider, are there idols between you and the Lord?
For this reason, you are ever in our prayers, that you may seem to our God such as may have a part in his purpose and that by his power he will make all his good purpose, and the work of faith, complete;
So that glory may be given to the name of our Lord Jesus through you, and you may have glory in him, by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1.11-12 Bible in Basic English (BBE))
Do you hear the voice of our Lord calling out to you? Most likely, he is, but you may not hear as you are too full of what is of the world to listen for him. Many things separate us from God's voice. Are you putting idols between you and the Lord? Through time, people have put many idols between themselves and the Lord and turned them into false gods ruling their lives. Greed is one of the most common afflictions. Making money and wealth can quickly become an idol in your life. Vanity, another type of greed, is an idol to be wary of. Vanity can quickly destroy your relationship with God and those who care for you.
Unfortunately, more things can become idols in our lives than there is paper to record them. Even things like exercise, when taken to an extreme, can put a wall between you and God. Examine your life. Are there things you need to eliminate or change or thoughts you must reconsider? Sometimes, this can be helped by replacing them with service to others. With a focus on service, you are helping yourself, growing yourself and others, and serving the Lord as he asks us to. Then you might better hear the Lord's voice in your mind and heart, find his peace, and know a serenity you have never experienced. Serenity, you will never know with a life consumed by false Gods.
Prayer:
Lord, you see my weaknesses. Help me recognize and work to eliminate them from my life. I want to hear your call, follow the journey you set me on, and love you with my focused heart every day for the rest of my life. I want to replace idol worship with experiences of your love. With you being my cheerleader and supporter when I stumble, I know I will achieve your desires. With that love, I will find your indescribable peace. I offer these prayers for support in Jesus Christ's name. Amen
