A Story in God's faith and hope for us. We are exploring the Holy Trinity.
So many are not sure of what the Holy Spirit or Ghost is. Why should you consider the Holy Spirit important to your faith life? How is the Holy Spirit part of the Holy Trinity? What is the Holy Trinity?
Exploring the Holy Trinity begins with looking at God, the Father. He lovingly created us in his image to create others and lives rich in him and full of joy. He found we could not stop ourselves from sin. He grieved and punished us but always loved us with a genuine heart. He saw we suffered and felt great compassion, so God helped his prophets foretell the Messiah in the Old Testament.
Jesus Christ was the answer to the Old Testament prophecy. Jesus Christ, son of God, was God made human. He lived, taught, and healed while living alongside humanity. He also learned firsthand about what it meant to be human. Yet Jesus had the "soul" connection to God, enabling him to complete his mission. Jesus was a great encourager. He encouraged people to believe that the Father was real. He encouraged us to learn more about God and to look into our hearts to make them pure and worthy of God. He knew how to speak of God because he was one with the Father.
At the Last Supper, humanity learned about the Holy Spirit. Jesus prayed to God, giving us the third aspect of God, the Holy Spirit. The part of God that is always present in us.
And I will make prayer to the Father and he will give you another Helper to be with you for ever,
Even the Spirit of true knowledge. That Spirit the world is not able to take to its heart because it sees him not and has no knowledge of him: but you have knowledge of him, because he is ever with you and will be in you. (John 14.16-17 Bible in Basic English (BBE))
The small voice you hear repeatedly throughout your life is most likely the Holy Spirit guiding and encouraging you to follow Jesus and fulfill God's desires. Some think of the Holy Spirit as our conscience, always acting as our guide to good choices. Whatever you call the Holy Spirit, it is to be treasured as a beautiful gift from Jesus and God. A gift that truly makes sure you know that you are never one, never alone. The Holy Spirit is a gift that can lead you to great joy and peace of mind, knowing you are taking the righteous path.
Holy Trinity, three in one, your mystery was so clearly revealed in the teaching of Jesus. He left me with everything I needed to know, and his apostles left me with the knowledge to learn and grow so I could help others. Your wonder comforts me with its guarantee that there is so much more to life than just living. With you, a sparkle in life touches my heart, mind, and soul. Your sparkle fills me with content and a yearning to see and do more for you. I am grateful for your love and continual support throughout my life. In the realization that I would be lost without the Holy Trinity, I pray. Amen.
