Do you consider Jesus as your brother, or that you are his sister or mother?
While he was still talking to the people, his mother and his brothers came, desiring to have talk with him. And one said to him, See, your mother and your brothers are outside, desiring to have talk with you. But he in answer said to him who gave the news, Who is my mother and who are my brothers? And he put out his hand to his disciples and said, See, my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the pleasure of my Father in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother. (Matthew 12:46-50 Bible in Basic English (BBE))
Do you ever think of Jesus as your brother, or as your sister, or as your mother? This scripture from Matthew tells us that Jesus said we should consider ourselves his brother, sister, or mother if we follow God and do God's pleasure. Does thinking about this make Jesus more real? Do you feel he is a little more within reach if you believe that? What if you are living to do God's pleasure? Scripture is clear. It is a heavy obligation, but a light burden to us if we strive to please God.
Prayer:
Jesus, hopefully, I am living to please the Lord, and as a result, you consider me your brother, sister, and mother. I am trying to be a joy to our Father. A pleasure that brings blessings to many on this earth. Please help me understand how to live to deliver delight to our Father daily. It is important to me, even without the promise of your love. I am grateful to have such a wise brother, and I can only try to live in the shadow of your example. Help me understand the deeper meaning of being your mother, sister, and brother. I love you, Jesus, and I love our Father with my whole heart. Amen.
