Day 110 - The Temptation of Wealth

Finding Your Creative Bones® 365-Day Devotional © 2023

Removing the temptation of wealth from your life is of the kingdom.

For where your wealth is, there will your heart be. The light of the body is the eye; if then your eye is true, all your body will be full of light. But if your eye is evil, all your body will be dark. If then the light which is in you is dark, how dark it will be! No man is able to be a servant to two masters: for he will have hate for the one and love for the other, or he will keep to one and have no respect for the other. You may not be servants of God and of wealth. (Matthew 6.21-24 Bible in Basic English (BBE))

Our world is pervasive, with people worried about money. This Scripture invites us to realize that wealth and the things that go with it should not be our goal. Think twice before worrying over the trivial, what to wear, having enough, or needing things. Do things bring you closer to God? Instead, consider that they could separate you from Heaven.

When you take your eye off of Heaven, you risk losing. You may lose your direction and perspective. The cost could be losing your faith. When consumed with the worldly, you are at risk.

Instead, fix your eyes on Heaven and forget your clothes, wealth, your standing in the community, and what others think. Worry for nothing as you stand, awaiting the glory that will come. Pray for your actual needs rather than wants.

Prayer:

Holy Father, my goal is yours for the use of your kingdom, and your continued contribution to Heaven's kingdom on earth. I give my worries about money to you. I give my desire for wealth to you. Remove the temptation of wealth in my life. I know you will provide more than I need. Your blessings are boundless in my life. Help me change my desires for financial reward into works for you rather than results for me. Loosen my energy from a fixation on myself to will and actions to deliver your wishes. The work is essential, and I favor working in the ways you call me. Amen.
